Our Collective Impact

We convene, build partnerships and provide the backbone support for initiatives that increase our sector’s collective impact and influence, to build sustainable conditions for change. We develop alliances and movements with communities beyond our sector to tackle racism, discrimination, and other shared root causes of exclusion and inequity.

Refugee Alliance

Belong Aotearoa is proud to support and coordinate the Refugee Alliance, a collective of over 40 organisations working together to advocate for improved refugee and former refugee outcomes across Aotearoa New Zealand.

Through funding secured from the Tindall Foundation, we administer and coordinate this vital network, enabling member organisations to collaborate on advocacy, policy engagement, and sector-wide initiatives.

The Refugee Alliance has strengthened its advocacy efforts through direct engagement with Ministers of Immigration and Mental Health, Hon. Phil Twyford, the Human Rights Commission, and MBIE officials. The Alliance actively participates in sector events and maintains regular coordination through Steering Group meetings and General Membership hui, while building visibility through weekly LinkedIn updates

Tūhonohono Diversity / Ethnic Leaders Network

Belong Aotearoa coordinates the Tūhonohono Diversity / Ethnic Leaders Network, bringing together ethnic community leaders to strengthen participation, build capacity, and amplify diverse voices across our communities.

Recent Highlights

The Network delivered key initiatives including an Ethnic Leaders Network Hui focused on increasing ethnic community participation in the 2025 local elections, and a Leadership and Capacity Building workshop for leaders of ethnic community organisations. Through collaboration with partners including Henderson-Massey Community Broker Betty MacLaren, Vitae, Auckland Wellbeing Collective, and MBIE's Community Partnership team, the Network continues to strengthen sector connections and support ethnic communities across Auckland.

Local Government Elections

Belong Aotearoa is committed to strengthening civic participation and ensuring diverse communities have a voice in local democracy.

Recent Highlights

We hosted a hui with the Ethnic Leaders Network in West Auckland to engage community leaders and explore strategies for encouraging civic participation in the 2025 local elections. To amplify these efforts, we are developing communications and video content featuring community members promoting the importance of voting, helping to strengthen engagement through trusted voices across our communities.
