Building a future through food
Belong Aotearoa has been running an FCP (Food Control Plan) training course at Wesley Community Centre for almost 10 years now. In this time, we have met many inspirational people with dreams of starting their own businesses so they can create a brighter future for themselves and their loved ones in their new home. Here are a couple of those stories.
Belong Aotearoa Sector Update 7 May 2026
At Belong Aotearoa, we describe ourselves as a systems change organisation. I recognise that it is a phrase that can feel hollow and slogan-like, especially in a world that rewards quantifiable metrics.
Belong Aotearoa Sector Update 23 April 2026
Recent racist comments by Minister Shane Jones are not an isolated incident but reflect a broader pattern of rhetoric drawn from familiar populist tactics: provoking division, targeting communities, and simplifying complex realities to mobilise votes and consolidate power.

Hailing originally from Sudan, Hala and her husband relocated. Starting again in a new country was not easy, but coming across the Safari Playgroups has made a big difference in Hala’s journey.
Belong Aotearoa Sector Update 12 March 2026
It has been both interesting and concerning to see how the conflict in the Middle East is covered in Aotearoa’s media. Much of the focus has been on domestic impacts: gas prices, rising inflation, and how our government is navigating a fraying global order. These are real issues, but far less attention has been paid to the deeply personal impact on New Zealanders with heritage or family in the region.
