The Growing Appetite for Food Entrepreneurship

Over the past few years, we’ve seen an incredible rise in participants joining our Food Control Plan (FCP) training, and it has been so inspiring to watch!

What’s even more exciting is the growing interest in starting food businesses and markets, especially those celebrating international and culturally diverse cuisines. People are eager to share authentic flavours from around the world and communities are responding with open arms….and hungry stomachs!

Dumplings from every corner of the world, satays inspired by Asia, Dubai chocolates, cheesecakes, cupcake treats, and aromatic charcoal-grilled dishes - flavours from around the globe are sizzling across Aotearoa New Zealand’s food markets. Creative new fusion dishes are also bringing cultures together, with a true global feast taking shape.

When we first launched the Food Control Plan (FCP) training years ago, most participants were focused on running small home-based kitchens or trying to find the right market to sell in. Opportunities were often limited, and the available spaces didn’t always match their vision or audience. Back then, starting a food business was often seen as a long-term dream, something to work toward over time.

But now, that dream has become a goal for right now. Participants are taking bold steps to turn their passions into reality, eager to bring their ideas to life, test their products, and make their mark in the food industry today, not someday.

We’re also seeing a wonderful trend of families working together - husbands and wives, parents and children, even siblings - joining forces to bring their culinary dreams to life. The teamwork, encouragement, and shared passion they bring to the kitchen are truly inspiring.

It’s also a valuable opportunity for women and families seeking flexibility while raising children or balancing other responsibilities. The skills, confidence, and community gained through FCP training help them take the next step, whether that’s growing their market presence, launching a catering business, or opening their first food truck or café.

What we’re witnessing isn’t just about food, it’s about culture, creativity, and connection. And we’re so proud to be part of that delicious journey.

Our FCP training is about more than food, it’s about people, culture, and creativity. Each dish tells a story, each ingredient has meaning, and each cook brings their own vision and drive.
