For two decades, Belong Aotearoa has worked alongside communities across Tāmaki Makaurau and Aotearoa to address systemic barriers to belonging. We collaborate with refugee-background and migrant communities to raise awareness, implement solutions, and drive sustainable, transformative change.
As two valued long-serving trustees complete their terms, we're inviting expressions of interest from individuals ready to contribute to our next chapter.
What We Are Looking For
We are seeking Board members who bring:
Strong governance experience including prior board service, with demonstrated capability in strategy oversight, organisational performance monitoring, and risk management.
Finance and/or fundraising expertise gained through governance roles, with experience stewarding financial sustainability, managing risk, and supporting income diversification.
Senior executive experience in the non-profit sector such as CEO, Executive Director or equivalent, with deep understanding of operating in a funding-dependent environment.
Essential Qualities
Board members must be committed to:
Acting in the best interests of the organisation
Exercising sound judgement
Contributing actively through meeting attendance, committee participation, and strategic relationship-building
Sector knowledge, lived experience, and demonstrated ability to navigate complex relationships in social justice spaces would be highly advantageous.
We particularly welcome applications from Tauiwi Global Majority and Tāngata Whenua.
Practical Details
Location: Belong Aotearoa is Auckland-based with national impact. We welcome applications from across the motu.
Time commitment: Approximately 8 hours per month including Board meetings, committees, reading and preparation. We strongly encourage Board members to stay connected with Belong's work through our regular e-newsletter and attendance at community events.
Please note this is a volunteer Board position; we do reimburse reasonable out-of-Auckland travel costs.
