We are looking for new Board members

Driving transformational change to improve inclusion, belonging and wellbeing for refugee-background and migrant communities.

Our Vision

An inclusive Aotearoa New Zealand where refugee-background and migrant communities can thrive.

Our Mission
Driving transformational change that improves inclusion, belonging and wellbeing for refugee-background and migrant communities.

About the Role:

Belong Aotearoa is a non-profit, systems change organisation for refugee-background and migrant communities. We work to address systemic barriers to settlement for people from migrant and former-refugee backgrounds in Aotearoa New Zealand. Only transformative change will remove these barriers that discriminate and isolate communities from opportunities for inclusion and wellbeing.

Belong Aotearoa has been working alongside communities and collaborating with others in Tāmaki Makaurau and across Aotearoa for two decades to help raise awareness, create, and implement solutions, and drive transformative change that is sustainable, addressing those prevalent barriers upstream and downstream.

We have recently reset our strategic approach as a systems change organisation, that sees a refreshed organisational structure in place, and with that, some long-standing trustees are reaching the end of their term as Board members for Belong Aotearoa.

About you:
The Board is seeking interest from potential members with the following:

●        Strong governance experience, to work with us, to embed the changes, and drive ongoing success.

●        A demonstrated capability in one or more of the following areas: financial, legal, executive leadership, and human resources.

●        Ability to act in the best interests of the organisation and share accountability for decisions.

●        Be committed to Belong Aotearoa in a manner consistent with our vision, mission, strategy and policies.

●        Be well informed on key issues and able to exercise reasonable judgement in making decisions.

●        Make a commitment of time for meetings, including membership of one Board Committee, key events and provide support to Belong Aotearoa in developing key relationships and partnerships.

●        Sector and lived experience will be highly advantageous.

●        Experience in commercial/social enterprise would be welcome.

We particularly welcome applications from Tauiwi Global Majority and Tāngata Whenua.

Auckland-based with a national impact we would welcome applications from across the motu.

Time commitment is about 8 hours per month including Board, committees, reading and preparation. This is an unpaid two-year position with responsible expenses covered. We strongly encourage Board members to keep up to date with Belong’s work via our regular e-newsletter and attendance at community events.

Applications will be considered as they are received.
