International guest speaker Professor Sophia Pandya shares her experiences and research around the challenges refugees face trying to integrate and settle in their host countries. Promoting social cohesion and sense of community and belonging is an ongoing challenge.

Professor Sophia Pandya will share some of her experiences and research with refugees around the world followed by guest speakers Abann Yor, General Manager, Aotearoa Resettled Community Coalition (ARCC) and Associate Professor Jay Marlowe, The University of Auckland who will respond with the New Zealand perspective around this topic.

Immigration New Zealand, as a part of the Refugee Quota Increase Programme, is developing a community engagement framework to support former refugee and wider communities to engage more effectively. The framework seeks to identify and develop strategies, tools and resources to build community cohesion and foster a sense of belonging – and they want to talk to you and your networks!
